Led people to freedom. After escaping slavery herself, Harriet made about 13 dangerous journeys on the Underground Railroad, a secret network of safe houses, to rescue roughly 70 enslaved people, including her own family and friends.
Called "Moses". People gave Harriet the nickname "Moses" because, like the biblical Moses, she led her people to freedom and safety.
Fought in the Civil War. During the American Civil War, Harriet served the Union Army as an armed scout and spy, using her bravery and knowledge to help end slavery.
Fought for women's rights. Later in life, Harriet became an activist for women's suffrage, fighting to make sure women could vote.
Never turned back. Harriet was known for her incredible determination, she never gave up on helping enslaved people escape, even when the journey was extremely dangerous.
