Cool facts
Leafy roof. Rainforests have a closed, continuous canopy, meaning the treetops join together to form a thick green ceiling over the forest.
Always moist. These forests are full of moisture-loving plants, so it stays damp and humid all the time.
Hanging gardens. Rainforests are home to epiphytes (plants that grow on other plants) and lianas (long woody vines that climb the trees).
No wildfires. It's so wet inside that wildfires basically never happen, which is one feature that defines a rainforest.
Two main types. There are tropical rainforests near the equator and temperate rainforests in cooler, wetter regions.
