Remote-controlled car. A Mars rover is a robotic vehicle that scientists on Earth drive across the surface of Mars.

Better than sitting still. Unlike landers that stay in one spot, rovers can travel to interesting rocks and features to study them up close.

Smart sunbathers. Rovers can move themselves into sunny spots to soak up energy and survive cold Martian winters.

Different from orbiters. Orbiting spacecraft circle Mars from above, while rovers roll along the ground for a closer look.
