The Red Planet. Mars looks orange-red because its surface is covered in iron-rich dust, kind of like rust.
Thin air. Mars has a very thin atmosphere made mostly of carbon dioxide, with pressure just a few thousandths of Earth's.
Frozen water. Mars holds water as ice in its polar caps and underground permafrost, plus thin clouds, fog, and frost, but no liquid lakes or rivers.
Lighter than home. Gravity on Mars is about one-third of Earth's, so you could jump much higher there!
Super chilly. Temperatures swing from a frosty −153°C to a mild 20°C, making it mostly a freezing desert world.
