Mighty general. Caesar led Rome's armies through the Gallic Wars, conquering huge areas of land in what is now France and beyond.

Dictator for life. In 44 BC he proclaimed himself dictator for life, gaining nearly total power over the Roman Republic.

Writer too. Besides being a soldier and ruler, Caesar was also an author who wrote accounts of his own military campaigns.

End of an era. His rise helped bring down the Roman Republic and paved the way for the Roman Empire.

Hugely influential. He's remembered as one of the most important figures in all of history, and even the month July is named after him.
