Cool facts
Lived with chimps. Starting in 1960, Jane moved to Tanzania and spent over 60 years watching wild chimpanzees up close in their natural home. She was one of the first scientists to actually live alongside them and really get to know them.
Chimps use tools. Jane discovered that chimpanzees make and use tools, just like humans do. This was shocking because scientists used to think only people could do that!
Feelings like ours. She found out that chimps have complex emotions, form deep friendships, and care for their families, showing they're thinking, feeling beings much more like us than we realized.
Families and learning. Chimps teach their babies skills and knowledge, passing them down through generations just the way human families do. This means chimpanzees have their own cultures!
Changed science forever. Jane's research completely transformed how scientists understand the connection between humans and animals, proving we're not as special and different as people once thought.
