Created Modern Nursing. Florence Nightingale transformed nursing from a low-respect job into a respected profession. She trained nurses and proved that proper medical care and cleanliness could save lives.
The Lady with the Lamp. During the Crimean War, she became famous for walking through hospital wards at night with a lamp, checking on injured soldiers and making sure they were comfortable and clean.
Used Data to Save Lives. She was one of the first to use statistics and charts to show how improving hygiene and living conditions dramatically reduced soldiers' death rates, from disease prevention, not just battle wounds.
Fixed Dirty Hospitals. At Constantinople, hospitals were filthy and soldiers were dying from disease. Nightingale insisted on cleaning wards, fresh air, and clean water, which immediately improved survival rates.
Changed Healthcare Forever. Her work during the 1850s Crimean War proved that organized, clean hospitals with trained nurses could save lives, and this idea spread around the world.
