Indian Ocean

Third biggest. The Indian Ocean is the third-largest of Earth's five oceans, covering about 70 million square kilometers.

Touches three continents. It's surrounded by Asia to the north, Africa to the west, and Australia to the east.

A fifth of the water. This ocean holds roughly 20% of all the water on Earth's surface.

Seas within. It includes famous regional seas like the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Andaman Sea.

Chilly southern edge. To the south it meets the Southern Ocean or Antarctica, depending on how you define its border.
