Mostly veggie eaters. Gorillas are primarily herbivores, spending their days munching on leaves, stems, and fruit in the tropical forests of equatorial Africa.

Almost like us. A gorilla's DNA is 96 to 99% similar to a human's, making them one of our closest living relatives in the animal kingdom.

Two main types. The genus Gorilla splits into two species: the eastern gorilla and the western gorilla, with four or five subspecies in total.

Gentle giants. Gorillas are the largest of the great apes, yet they're famously calm and peaceful creatures.
