Many fishing methods. People catch fish in lots of creative ways, with fishing lines and hooks, big nets, spears, traps, and even by hand. Each method works better for different types of fish and different places.

Fish come from everywhere. Fish can be caught from natural wild places like rivers and oceans, or from special ponds and reservoirs that people create and fill with fish just for fishing.

Industrial fishing is huge. Large fishing boats use powerful techniques like trawling (dragging giant nets along the ocean floor) and longlining (using miles of fishing line with thousands of hooks) to catch massive amounts of fish.

Some methods are harmful. A few fishing techniques like electrocution, explosives, and poison are illegal because they damage fish populations and hurt the environment, not just catching individual fish.

Fishing as a hobby. Millions of people fish for fun and relaxation, casting a line into a quiet lake or river to enjoy nature while trying to catch their dinner.
