Cool facts
Music plus movement. Dance is when people move their bodies in thoughtful, beautiful sequences, almost always with music playing along. The movements can be made up on the spot or carefully planned ahead of time.
Every culture dances. Dance happens all around the world and has been created in countless different ways depending on where people live and what their culture values. Each style tells its own special story.
Choreography is the plan. A choreographer is the person who decides what movements dancers will do, kind of like a director plans out a movie. They create the exact sequence of steps and gestures that make up a dance performance.
Dancers make music too. Sometimes dancers don't just dance to music that's already playing. They play instruments while they dance, creating the sounds and movements at the same time.
Meaning in motion. Dance isn't just about looking cool. The movements often have symbolic meaning, telling stories or expressing feelings that words sometimes can't.
