Cool facts
Holes in Earth. Caves are natural empty spaces beneath the surface of the Earth. Some are tiny tunnels, while others stretch for miles deep underground.
Made by weathering. Many caves form slowly as water wears away and dissolves rock over thousands or even millions of years.
Two main types. Exogene caves are small openings that go only a short way in. Endogene caves go deeper underground than their entrance is wide.
Not just on Earth. Caves haven't only been found here, scientists have spotted them on other rocky worlds in space too!
