Super long neck. Brontosaurus is the archetypal long-necked dinosaur you see in cartoons and movies. It was a huge plant-eating sauropod that lived in the Late Jurassic period.
Plant power. It was an herbivore, meaning it munched only on plants. Its long neck helped it reach lots of leaves.
Ancient giant. Brontosaurus lived about 156 to 146 million years ago in what is now Utah and Wyoming, USA.
Name comeback. For decades scientists thought Brontosaurus was really just Apatosaurus. But a 2015 study found it was its own kind after all, bringing the name back!
First discovery. Paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh named it in 1879 from a skeleton found in Como Bluff, Wyoming, that was missing its skull.
