Cool facts
Snow + Wind. A blizzard happens when strong winds blow falling snow around so hard that you can barely see anything. It's not just about heavy snow, it's the wind that makes it so dangerous and wild.
Must Last Hours. To officially be called a blizzard, the storm has to keep raging with fierce winds and low visibility for at least three or four hours. Short snow squalls don't count!
Ground Blizzard. Sometimes blizzards happen without new snow falling at all! A ground blizzard is when wind picks up snow that's already on the ground and swirls it around like a snowstorm.
Enormous Size. Blizzards aren't small, they can stretch for hundreds or even thousands of kilometers, covering huge regions and affecting millions of people at once.
