Cool facts
Light can't escape. A black hole is so compact and its gravity so strong that nothing, not even light, can get away. That's why it looks completely black.
Point of no return. The edge of a black hole is called the event horizon. Once something crosses it, there's no coming back out.
Einstein predicted it. Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, which describes gravity as the bending of spacetime, predicted that black holes could exist.
A strange center. Scientists think every black hole has a singularity at its center, a spot where space is bent infinitely and the rules get really weird.
