Cool facts
Invented by Whitcomb L. Judson. An American inventor from Chicago patented the first zipper design way back in 1892. His original idea became the foundation for the zippers we use today.
Interlocking teeth magic. Zippers work by having thousands of tiny metal or plastic teeth on each side that fit together perfectly. When you slide the slider up or down, it locks and unlocks these teeth to open and close.
Used everywhere. You'll find zippers on jackets, jeans, backpacks, sleeping bags, and even pencil cases. They're one of the most useful inventions because they hold things together quickly and securely.
Many sizes and colors. Zippers come in different widths, lengths, and colors so they work for tiny pouches or giant tent flaps. Designers can even match them to the fabric they're fastening together.
