Music and videos together. Unlike some music apps that only play songs, YouTube Music lets you watch official music videos while you listen. You can explore songs, playlists, and recommendations all from the same app.

Google's music streaming choice. On December 1, 2020, YouTube Music became Google's main music streaming service, taking over from an older app called Google Play Music. Now it's the main way Google users stream music.

Podcasts joined the party. In April 2023, YouTube Music added podcasts to its service right before Google shut down its separate podcast app. Now you can listen to music and podcasts in one place.

Part of YouTube. YouTube Music is owned and operated by YouTube, which is a company that Google owns. This means it connects to all the music videos and creators on YouTube's main platform.

Personalized recommendations. The app learns what music you like and suggests new songs and artists you might enjoy based on what you listen to.
