Living mobile home. A snail's coiled shell is large enough for the whole animal to pull itself completely inside for safety.

Land, sea, and rivers. Snails live almost everywhere! There are land snails, freshwater snails, and many kinds of sea snails.

Slug cousins. Slugs are basically snails without a shell, or with only a tiny internal one. Snails with very small shells are called semi-slugs.

Slimy traveler. Snails are gastropods, which means 'stomach-foot.' They glide along on a muscular foot, leaving a trail of slippery slime.
