Noodles in broth. Ramen is made with special alkaline wheat noodles served in hot broth flavored with soy sauce, miso, or other tasty seasonings. It's warm, filling, and loved all across Japan.
Tasty toppings. A bowl of ramen gets topped with sliced pork, seaweed (nori), crunchy bamboo shoots, and green onions. Each topping adds its own flavor and texture to the dish.
Different in each region. Nearly every part of Japan has its own special ramen style! Kyushu is famous for tonkotsu ramen made with pork bone broth, while Hokkaido loves rich miso ramen.
Chinese inspiration. Ramen came from Chinese cuisine, and it's actually considered part of Japanese-Chinese food. The noodles and cooking style were adapted and made distinctly Japanese over time.
