Where it sits. Portugal is tucked into the southwestern corner of Europe, right next to Spain on the Iberian Peninsula. It also includes two groups of islands far out in the Atlantic Ocean called Madeira and the Azores.
Lots of ocean. Portugal's waters and the ocean area it controls cover two-fifths of the whole country. This means Portugal actually controls way more ocean space than you might expect for its size on land.
Capital city. Lisbon, the capital, is Portugal's biggest city and is famous for its colorful buildings and hilly streets. Over 11 million people live in Portugal altogether.
Many landscapes. Portugal has super diverse terrain, meaning you'll find different types of land and weather in different regions. You can find everything from beaches to mountains across the country.
