Japanese comics. Manga are comics and graphic novels that started in Japan in the late 1800s. The style became really popular and is still super loved today.

Ancient art roots. Manga didn't just appear out of nowhere, people in Japan had been making artistic pictures and stories for hundreds of years before modern manga was created.

Japan's special word. In Japan, 'manga' means both comics and the art of cartooning itself, but outside Japan, people use it mostly to talk about Japanese comics specifically.

Unique style. Manga have their own special look and way of telling stories that makes them different from comics made in other countries.
