A muscle pump. The heart is a muscular organ that squeezes to push blood all through your body, day and night without ever taking a break.

Fist-sized. Your heart is about the size of your closed fist and sits between your lungs in the middle of your chest.

Delivery service. The blood it pumps carries oxygen and nutrients to your tissues, keeping every part of you alive and working.

Waste removal. It also carries away waste like carbon dioxide, sending it to the lungs so you can breathe it out.
