Thousands of islands. Greece is made up of nine regions plus thousands of islands scattered across the sea, giving it the longest coastline of any country on the Mediterranean.

Home of Athens. The capital city, Athens, is the largest city in Greece, followed by Thessaloniki and Patras.

Surrounded by seas. The Ionian Sea lies to the west and the Aegean Sea to the east, where Greece shares a watery border with Turkey.

Ten million people. About 10 million people live in Greece, sitting on the southern tip of the Balkan peninsula in Southeast Europe.

Many neighbors. Greece shares land borders with Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
