Cool facts
Fast First Aid. EMTs are often the first medical experts to reach someone in trouble, whether it's a car crash, heart attack, or bad fall. They give quick treatment right away before taking patients to the hospital.
Special Training Required. To become an EMT, you have to take special classes and pass tough tests to prove you know how to handle emergencies. This training teaches you CPR, how to stop bleeding, and how to move injured people safely.
Work with Fire Departments. Many EMTs work as part of fire departments, meaning firefighters learn both firefighting and medical rescue skills. Some also work only on ambulances in hospitals or private companies.
Stay Calm Under Pressure. EMTs have to think clearly and make quick decisions when people are scared and hurt all around them. This calm attitude can be the difference between a good outcome and a bad one.
Work All Hours. Because emergencies happen anytime, EMTs work different shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. An ambulance might get 20 calls in a single day.
