Springtime champion. Crocuses are often the very first flowers to bloom when winter ends, sometimes poking through snow to show their bright petals.
Underground superstars. Instead of regular bulbs, crocuses grow from corms, which are chunky underground storage vessels that contain all the energy the plant needs to flower.
Rainbow of colors. With about 100 different species, crocuses come in shades of purple, yellow, white, and even striped patterns.
Pollinator favorites. Bees love crocuses because they're hungry for the nectar and pollen early in spring when food is hard to find.
Mountain origins. Most crocuses come from mountainous regions in Europe and Asia, where they evolved to survive cold winters.
