Ideas come first. In conceptual art, the thought behind the work is the star of the show. It's like the artist is saying that a brilliant idea can be more important than a beautiful painting or a perfect sculpture.

Anyone can make it. Some conceptual art pieces come with written instructions that anyone can follow to create the work. You don't need special skills or fancy materials, just the ability to follow directions and understand the concept.

Planning matters most. Conceptual artists spend tons of time thinking and planning every detail before they even start making anything. Once the plan is set, the actual building or creating part becomes less important than the original idea.

Ideas as machines. Famous artist Sol LeWitt said 'the idea becomes a machine that makes the art,' meaning the concept does all the heavy lifting. It's like the idea is the engine, and everything else that happens is just following what the engine tells you to do.
