Nine vs Nine. Baseball is played between two teams of nine players each. They take turns batting and fielding.
Pitcher vs Batter. Each play starts when the pitcher throws the ball and the batter tries to whack it with a bat into the field of play.
Round the Bases. After hitting the ball, runners dash counter-clockwise around four bases, trying to advance without getting out.
Scoring a Run. A run is scored when a runner legally circles all the bases in order and touches home plate.
Defense's Job. The fielding team tries to stop batters from becoming runners and keep runners from advancing around the bases.
