Cool facts
Nearly a kilometer tall. Angel Falls drops 979 metres (3,212 feet) from top to bottom, making it the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall. That's almost ten times taller than Niagara Falls!
Emerges from a tepui. The waterfall plunges over the edge of Auyรกn-tepui, a massive flat-topped mountain in Venezuela's Gran Sabana region. These strange-shaped mountains are called tepuis and rise like islands above the rainforest.
A protected treasure. Angel Falls is located in Canaima National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized as one of the most special places on Earth. The park protects the unique landscape and the plants and animals that live there.
The main drop is enormous. The plunge portion of the waterfall is 807 metres (2,648 feet) of nearly straight fall, though there are also about 400 metres of rapids and cascades below it. When water falls that far, it creates an incredible misty spray at the bottom.
