Cool facts
Runways for landing. Airports have long, flat strips of land called runways where planes speed up to take off into the sky or slow down to land safely after flying through the air.
Control towers watch. Tall control towers at airports have people who talk to pilots using radios to make sure every plane knows when and where to take off and land so they don't crash into each other.
Buildings everywhere. Besides runways, airports have hangars (huge buildings that store planes), terminals (where people buy tickets and wait), restaurants, and emergency services ready to help if anything goes wrong.
Taxiways guide planes. Planes don't drive on regular roads, they taxi along special paths called taxiways that connect the runway to hangars and parking areas called aprons.
Shops and restaurants. Large airports have stores, restaurants, and lounges where passengers can eat, shop, or relax while waiting for their flights.
