Cool facts
Two main types. Home consoles sit by your TV and use a separate controller, while handheld consoles have everything built in so you can play anywhere, anytime.
Displays your game. The console sends pictures and sound to a television or monitor so you can see and hear what's happening in the game world.
Controller power. You use a game controller to send commands to the console, telling your character to move, jump, shoot, or do whatever the game needs.
Hybrid consoles exist. Some newer consoles blend both ideas, working as a home console when docked to a TV but also playing as a handheld device when you take them on the go.
Processes game data. Inside a console is a computer brain that reads the game instructions, calculates what happens next, and creates the images you see in real time.
