Follows a program. A robot is a machine that can carry out a series of actions automatically, usually because a computer tells it what to do.

Controlled inside or out. Robots can be guided by a control built right inside them, or by a device controlled by a person from outside.

Built for the job. Most robots aren't shaped like people at all. They're designed to be good at a task, so looks matter less than how well they work.

Some look human. Robots that are made to look like people are called humanoids, but they're actually pretty rare compared to all the other kinds.
