Moon-based timing. Lunar calendars follow the Moon's phases instead of the Sun, so Lunar New Year falls on a different date each year on our regular calendar.
The leap month trick. Because a year of twelve lunar months is about 11 days shorter than a solar year, calendars add an extra 'leap month' every few years to stay in sync with the seasons.
Celebrated worldwide. Many countries and cultures, especially in East and Southeast Asia, celebrate Lunar New Year with festivals, family gatherings, and special traditions.
Ancient timekeeping. People have used lunar calendars for thousands of years because the Moon's cycle is easy to track without modern tools.
