Nature's drink pouch. Coconut water is the clear liquid inside young coconuts, and it actually has an important job, it helps feed and support the developing coconut as it grows.

Best when young. The coconut water from young, green coconuts tastes better and is preferred by many people compared to the liquid in older, ripened coconuts.

Called buko juice. In the Philippines, coconut water from young coconuts has a special name: buko juice, which is a popular refreshing drink in that part of the world.

Suspension system. In the early stages of coconut growth, the coconut water acts like a suspension, it holds and carries nutrients that help the coconut's inner flesh (called the endosperm) develop properly.
