Founded long ago. According to legend, Rome was founded in the 8th century BC. It started as a small city in Italy.

Three big chapters. Rome went from a Kingdom to a Republic, and then to a mighty Empire ruled by emperors.

Power to the people. During the Roman Republic, citizens helped choose leaders, an early idea of voting in government.

Builders and inventors. Romans built amazing roads, aqueducts, and huge stone buildings, many still standing today.

The big ending. The Western Roman Empire collapsed in the 5th century AD, ending the ancient Roman era.
